Getting your kids to brush can be a chore in itself. My kids usually complained about something when it came time to brush. Some days it was the taste of the toothpaste while other days it was the color of the toothbrush. The task of getting them to brush was not fun. I am sure most parents have experienced this at one time or another.

Good dental care is important. Healthy teeth means less traumatic experiences at the dentist. There is nothing worse than watching your child cry and wrestle with the dentist in order to fill one of those pesky cavities. Establishing good brush habits while your child is young will follow your child through his teenage years and into adulthood. I guess you can think of your child’s baby teeth as their practice teeth to get them ready to care for their permanent adult teeth.

While buying the newest favorite superhero themed toothbrush, or glittery toothpaste will make your child excited to brush for a short time, the novelty will soon wear off. The goal is to get your child to stay interested in brushing.

While most parents try the obvious incentives to brush such as special toothbrushes and tooth paste or even brush charts or stickers, the least obvious choice may be even more successful. What is this secret ammunition for parents? The Tooth Fairy is a great motivator to get your young child to keep brushing. Instead of waiting for your child to lose their first tooth to have a visit from the Tooth Fairy try sending a reminder to brush note. By placing little reminder notes from the Tooth Fairy to your child encouraging them to brush will help give your child motivated. If they think the Tooth Fairy is watching them and waiting anxiously for their cared for shiny and white baby teeth to fall out they will be more excited to keep brushing.

Enjoy the magical time when your children believe in the Tooth Fairy. Enjoy the twinkle in their eye and the smile across their face. Take advantage of this awesome opportunity to help your child understand the importance of good dental care.
