Stay away from household cleaning products when you are pregnant. Inhaling these products when you are pregnant can cause serious health problems for you and your baby. Have someone else in your home do your cleaning, or, if you have to clean, wear a protective mask over your nose and mouth.

See your doctor before trying to become pregnant. Your doctor will be able to advise you on healthy changes to make in your lifestyle now, to make sure you have the best pregnancy possible. Learning how to prepare your body for pregnancy is one of the best things you can do to help ensure a safe and healthy experience.

Try taking your prenatal vitamins at night. These pills, while essential for the proper growth and development of your baby, can make some mothers feel nauseous. Taking them before you lay down or with food can help your body adjust to their effects. If you need to take them during the day, try chewing gum afterwards.

If you smoke, being pregnant is the greatest reason you will ever have to stop smoking so find a way to do it now! As stressful as being pregnant may be, jeopardizing the health of your baby is a million times more stressful. This is a great opportunity to get medical help to quit and have the strongest motivating factor to keep you smoke-free.

If you get a headache when you are pregnant, make sure to stay away from aspirin. Aspirin has been proven to cause harm in both an expectant mother and baby. It is best to ask your doctor what medications are safe for you to use. Also, try relieving head pressure by using a cool compress.

Go ahead and give in to your pregnancy cravings. Doctors aren’t quite sure if cravings are a result of emotional changes or of nutritional deficits in your diet, but not getting the foods you crave can be stressful during a time when you don’t need the added stress. Just be careful that your diet is healthy overall.

If you experience any vaginal bleeding when you are pregnant, it is important that you go to your doctor or to the emergency room right away. Although it may be nothing, vaginal bleeding could be a sign that the baby is in distress, or worse, that you are having a miscarriage.

Keep in mind that it can take up to a year for a woman to get pregnant. If you have been trying for that long and are not having any success, it is time to go see your doctor. They will be able to tell you if there is any medical reason for your struggles.

Keep every single one of the appointments you have with your medical care provider in order to stay one step ahead of any situation that may develop. Appointments are scheduled at calculated intervals so the doctor can monitor every stage of fetal development and how your body is effected by the pregnancy. To make sure the both of you are in tip top shape, don’t miss an appointment!

In order to stimulate your children's mind and body, it is important to engage them in a variety of activities. But as much as possible, it is also important that you do not over-schedule your children.

In order to stimulate your children’s mind and body, it is important to engage them in a variety of activities. But as much as possible, it is also important that you do not over-schedule your children.

What a lot of well meaning parent would do is set out to interest their children in a few extracurricular activities aside from school and ordinary family fun stuff.

It’s natural to work hard to be the best parent that you can be. But many parents assume that scheduling their children for as many activities as possible is actually the best way to rear kids because they get so caught up in the chaos of ordinary busy life.

But realistically, you child will be prevented from enjoying quiet solitude and some occasional time to simply reflect on life and enjoy an ordinary, ‘lazy’ day if you over-schedule them and this will have the potential to impact your family in a negative way.

Parents nowadays are excited to schedule their children for as many activities as possible, buy into the latest developmental tapes and do everything possible to stimulate early intellectual development and healthy habits.

Not surprisingly, kids will be left exhausted, confused, discouraged, and un-motivated since this pattern of over-scheduling can backfire.

Scheduling activities was virtually unheard of in the old days. Traditionally, parents have gone with the flow and they encourage their children to engage in active play as they see fit.

Do you know how you can encourage your kids to get involved without over-burdening them?

Keep reading to learn some tips from experienced parents:

Every Season, One Activity should be Scheduled. An example would be scheduling something for the spring and something for the fall if you are interested in getting your children involved in sports. Don’t think about having a plan every weekend day or for every season. With this one activity, you can stimulate your child’s development and also encourage a healthy lifestyle without burdening them.

Your Children should have a Choice. As best as possible, you want to try to choose activities your children will enjoy. You should consider one or two different activities in order to do this and consult with your child. If you register them for soccer but they hate soccer, you will probably only end up frustrated, and your child will not benefit from the experience.

Quiet Time should be Allowed. Your child should be allowed some portion of the week, month, or day where he doesn’t have to do anything. Introspection and time for simply exploring are essential components of a child’s development.

In the long run, we are all well meaning parents. But keep in mind that being a good parent is not defined by how many activities they involve their children each and every day.

A good parent is one that allows their children the opportunity to explore many different things without forcing many different things on their kids.

Some insight into the world of parenting is offered in the following article.

Some insight into the world of parenting is offered in the following article.

Did you know that there are just as many parenting styles as there are a number of parents? Experts believe the parenting styles fall into 4 different and identifiable styles: authoritarian, indulgent, authoritative, and uninvolved.

We can try to examine this more closely. The authoritarian parent is considered as the first parenting style. Army commanders are what these parents are like. What these parents prefer to do is issue commands and orders to their children and fully expect their children to carry out their orders without questioning them. Authoritarians do not welcome nor appreciate any feedback from their children. In a structured environment, they live by set and defined rules. These children as we now know, are generally considered to have an unhappy nature about them. When dealing with frustration, boys generally exhibit hostile behavior whereas girls tend to give up easily when faced with difficult situations. However, due to their disciplined upbringing, both the boys and the girls tend to perform better in school.

Then second style of parenting is the indulgent parent. Generally, these parents are lenient. They would allow a variety of behaviors by their kids and some people would describe it to be immature. They would also allow their kids to look after themselves and they would try to avoid confronting them. Other words to describe indulgent parents would be non-directive and democratic. Non-directive parents virtually take no action in the parenting of their children and they are also known to parent by default. But for democratic parents, even if they are lenient, they are more aware and show a commitment to engage with their parents.

The third parenting style is that of the authoritative parent. Both demanding and responsive are at what these parents are actually known for. These parents don’t impose their authority and welcome a certain amount of questioning while expecting their children to behave in a certain manner. What they demonstrate is a combination of assertiveness coupled with the ability to respond to their children’s feedback. Because of this, the children appear to be lively and also have a happier disposition about them. Not only is their self-confidence more developed, but they also seem to be more sure of their abilities. These children also show better emotional control and are more adept in their social skills. Because they tend to be more open minded in their outlook towards their children’s behavior, such as boys playing with dolls and girls playing with tools, gender stereotypes are also less of an issue with authoritative parents.

Lastly, we look at the parenting style known as “uninvolved parenting”. As the name suggests, these parents are simply uninvolved. They are not interested in any feedback from their children and they are neither demanding nor responsive of them. These are the parents who would more often neglect their children and they are also likely to be irresponsible.

Hopefully, you have found the above information insightful and will try to find out the many more sources available on this topic online.

Before returning to the workforce, selecting a daycare is one of the most important decisions that you will make.

Before returning to the workforce, selecting a daycare is one of the most important decisions that you will make.

Do you know why? The ultimate responsibility for your child’s well being and safety lies in the center you choose and this will include the 5-9 hours a day they are left in the care of the center.

There are several things you should keep in mind before you sign your children up for care whether you are looking for a home child care provider or an official daycare center.

Think of the location. The first thing that you have to consider is where you would like to have your child cared for. Perhaps it could be in a center close to your home, your job, or you may even prefer care in your home. You can start investigating the available centers or providers in that area once you have decided on the location.

Ask for References. Ask your friends and other family members with children for references about good daycare centers. Most of the time, there are the most reliable source of information about daycare.

The Daycare Staff should be Interviewed. Never place your child in a daycare center without first meeting the staff. Make a point to meet the director and the caregivers that will be looking over your little one. Feel free to ask them questions about their standards, disciplinary procedures, sleep and even feeding routines. What you should be looking for are enthusiastic, caring, dedicated, and warm staff members. Their love of children should be evident in everything that they do. If you are not comfortable with the staff, look somewhere else.

Check References. As we mentioned you should check with your family and friends for references to a decent day care center. In order to confirm their qualifications, you should also ask the center for a list of references you can call. One thing you might also inquire about is staff turn over. The higher the rate of turn over the more likely there is to be trouble.

A clean environment, a good reputation, solid rules and a curriculum that includes lots of playtime, physical activity, learning activities and even quiet time are the things that a good day care center will have.

You should also keep in mind staff ratios when you are determining whether a daycare is good or not. For babies, the ratio should generally be one caregiver for every three children when there are six infants and one for every four if there are eight.

The ratio is usually 1:3 for six children, 1:5 for ten and 1:4 for 12 for toddlers aged 12-24 months.

Checking to see if the ratio falls within recommended guidelines is a must and also check if it is acceptable to you.

Another thing you should make sure of is that the daycare facility is operating using a valid non-expired license. If you want to check if a license is valid, then try calling your local social services department.

In this day and age of hyper-active kids and super busy, multi-tasking parents, it's actually one of the hardest things to do but spending good quality time with your children doesn't have to be a painful torture tactic.

In this day and age of hyper-active kids and super busy, multi-tasking parents, it’s actually one of the hardest things to do but spending good quality time with your children doesn’t have to be a painful torture tactic.

Of all the things you can do with your kids, one of the best and most enjoyable is to read to them. This is a great way to connect with them and to share different parts of your life story in a natural, easy, and relaxed setting.

When you start reading to your kids, one of the best books, or set of books, you can use is the “Little House on the Prairie” series. Beginning in the late 1800’s, it tells the story of a distant, almost forgotten, time in American history. If Laura Ingalls hadn’t shared her life with us, then it may be a time that most of us might not believe ever existed.

Try to imagine living without cars, without light switches, and without TVs. Well, once you start reading “Little House”, you will be transported, in your imagination, back to moments that seem almost surreal. During this time, the kids actually played outside and got dirt beneath their fingernails and between their toes. Where children were thrilled to get 1 or 2 holiday gifts, and enjoyed playing with them for months afterwards. A place where adults planted and grew, hunted and prepared their own foods, right from the land they were living on.

But when it comes to the Little House picture, it can’t be painted completely rosy. Causing you to cringe are some of the statements and beliefs that you will see throughout the series. Reconstructing how they are read to your kids is what you may even want to do. For example, almost all of the comments about Native Americans are derogatory. But you can not just sweep American history under a rug, or hide it, in the hopes that all the painful parts will just disappear or go away. When sharing and passing on heritage to your children, remember that a large part of it are the struggles and accomplishments.

What your kids will probably be excited about is sharing such relaxing, enjoyable quality time with you. There’s also the fact that the thrill of each chapter will provide a rich and pleasant adventure for you and for them.

You are sure to find something that you and your children will love in the “Little House” series, whether it’s fighting a bear in hand-to-hand combat, or traveling all night across a frozen lake, or enjoying the beauty of Jack Frost’s artwork on a window pane. So make plans to start reading to your kids, and open up a whole new world of imaginative possibilities.

Have you found yourself running out to the mall and buying toy after toy for you kids simply because they have friends who have this toy, only to find the toy isn’t even played with a couple of weeks after being purchased? The cycle then resurfaces for the next toy of the moment your child tells you he or she wants. If you get the right toys, then not only will playing with toys be a lot of fun, but this can also stimulate your child’s imagination and creativity. The stores and departments stores that are found in the mall, even though there are a lot of them, tend to carry the same set of products and toys. Because they follow the tried and true formula for carrying products, it allows little to no unique products.

Children tend to want the same toys as their friends simply because whoever is first to get it will be the proud owner of a new unique toy. As each of your children’s friends now has this same toy, all purchased from the same store in the mall, this novelty of having a unique toy soon wears off. The right creative toys is what a child’s creativity needs in order to continue growing.

A fine line between spoiling a child and rewarding them with new toys is the line you walk as a parent. But from experience you know that the euphoria from having a unique toy fades as the toy becomes mainstream. What do you think you should do to avoid falling in this cycle?

The answer is found on the Internet! Online, there are many toy stores that have opened and sell unique, creative, imaginative, or simply hard to find toys products. Products that can be found at another store that specializes in carrying unique items are carried by very few specialty stores.

Bringing your child with you to the computer the next time a toy purchase is planned is a good idea and you can show them all of the stuff they never would have known exists if you had gone to shop at your area mall. There’s no way of telling what you could find.

Do you think your child enjoys building blocks? If he does, then you can try different kinds of toy blocks that your child would enjoy. Blocks that click together, snap together, or are stackable are available out there. Blast off to the moon, or to completely new worlds with a rocket, or ride the Orient Express with the a train set. There are a variety of toys out there that can be lots of fun for your little one!

Buying toys online also make it easy to find the perfect unique birthday or holiday gift for not only your own child, but for family and friends as well.

Learn how you can work online with legitimate home based business ideas.

If you noticed that your baby is not napping well during her first few months of life, then you may want to try to cut back on the time that she is awake by 15 minute increments. She will then fight sleep and be difficult to get to nap if she is getting over stimulated. The way to prevent this is to watch her “sleepy” cues to make sure that you put her down when she is beginning to get sleepy.

Some parents would think that if they let their children cry, then it will harm him or her. If your child cries for fifteen or twenty minutes, then this will not harm your child physically or mentally. Self-soothing and falling asleep themselves is what babies will learn to do but only if you let her. It is very important that babies learn to fall asleep by themselves so that they can self-soothe if they awake in the middle of the night. Otherwise, you may have a child that will not sleep through the night for years.

Regular sleep patterns are intermeshed with regular eating patterns, so let us look at the stages of a baby’s life.

For newborns. Your newborn will sleep anywhere from 16 to 20 hours a day, including the naps that he takes between feedings. You should let your baby stay awake for a short while when he has been fed and then put him down before he becomes over stimulated.

For two months. When your baby is two months and older, then he should be allowed to try to self-soothe during their naptimes and bedtime. Crying is normal when you put your baby down, but it is okay. If he cries for longer than 10-15 minutes, then go in and check on him. Don’t get him up, but pat his bottom or lightly rub his back until he calms down.

For 3-6 months. Your baby will stop taking one of her naps at around 3-6 months. The third nap or late afternoon nap that they do not need as much is what this usually is. He may be a little fussy and may want to take a little nap, but you need to try to keep him up if you want him to go to bed at a decent time and sleep soundly through the night.

What about 16+ months. Usually, when your child is between 16-20 months, they quit taking the morning nap in favor of a longer nap in the afternoons. Babies this age usually sleep between 10-12 hours a night and take a 2-3 hour afternoon nap.

Ground Rules about Naps.

You decide when the nap starts and ends, not the baby.

If your baby is older than 4 months old, if she hasn’t slept enough then she will wake up crying. She could be in a position that is not comfortable, hot or cold, or she might have a dirty diaper. Try fixing the problem and encourage her to go back to sleep. Babies wake up happy, talking, and in a good mood when they have enough rest.

A safe is essential if you have a gun at home. It is also essential that your safe is easy for you to use but difficult to access without your authorization.

A safe is essential if you have a gun at home. It is also essential that your safe is easy for you to use but difficult to access without your authorization.

When it comes to safes, they are made from tough, heavy gauge steel, typically half an inch thick. In a safe, there may be two sheets of hard steel with the ball bearings being sandwiched between the two layers. The ball bearings make drilling through the door or sides very difficult.

The door and lock are inherently the weakest points of any safe. When you lock the safe door, this should operate hardened steel or titanium bolts on all four sides. Hinges are internal so that they do not present a weakness to an intruder.

Locks may be key, combination or fingerprint operated. Combinations of different types of lock and time delays before a lock will open are what you will find on the best safes.

Key locks can be picked, even the most complex key operated lock can be picked by an expert. An expert can find a combination code on a rotary combination dials fairly easily. The best option for you is to have a keypad combination if you have a combination lock. There are no moving parts here that can go wrong or to give clues to a safe cracker who is listening to the lock as he or she operates it.

Keeping the keypad clean is also very important. If keys or either dirty or clean, it can give clues to anyone trying to get into your safe. You need to be sure that the combination you choose bears no relationship to phone numbers, birth dates or any other data that can be guessed.

A fingerprint-operated lock is the best option. You can then have absolute confidence that while your fingers are attached to your body that nobody will be able to open your safe without your knowledge.

With a fingerprint operated lock combined with a keypad combination lock or a second fingerprint operated lock set up for a second person, the best security for guns or valuables will be provided.

Usually built into home safes with layers of insulating material and expanding door seals that exclude oxygen and prevent combustion of the safe contents is fire protection.

For any parent, getting their child to eat healthy food can be a monumental challenge. However, studies show that all of the haggling, arguing, and hassle is actually worth the effort as a healthy diet leads to enhanced academic performance in school. In fact, malnourished children are often more likely to miss school, score lower on standardized tests, and repeat grades which is why they struggle in school. Worse, serious health problems, such as diabetes, that not only affect academic performance but a student’s ability to participate in extracurricular activities, can also be the result of bad eating habits.

Following the chain of negative events, starting with bad nutrition, would mean that it is not hard to see how a child’s academic career can suffer. For instance, bad nutrition can lead to increased doctor visits and missed school days because it leads to a weakened immune system. Missing school makes it harder for students to maintain their grades or keep up with lessons. Even if a student can keep up, bad nutrition can interfere with their ability to accept and digest information. Too much sugar, for instance, can cause attention deficit disorder-like symptoms and chronic headaches, making learning nearly impossible.

When kids are left in charge of preparing their own breakfast and lunch, then these particular nutrition problems would usually arise. If they don’t skip their meals, then they would be making poor food choices. Out of convenience, kids are drawn to processed foods that are high in sugar, sodium and fat. This brand of malnutrition is particularly insidious because health, growth and cognitive problems may not be noticed until a serious issue has developed.

The simple act of eating breakfast can make a world of difference in warding off many of these health problems. “A nutritious breakfast provides approximately one-fourth of the recommended dietary allowances for key nutrients such as protein, vitamin A, vitamin B6, calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc” and this is according to the Dairy Council of California. This explains why schools offering breakfast service have seen such major improvements in their students’ overall health, attitude and performance.

However, breakfast is just one of the many ways parents can ensure their kids get a healthy start. Following are some additional suggestions for teaching your children healthy eating habits.

Below are 5 Tips to a Better Nutrition.

Don’t make the mistake of offering a wide variety of packaged snack items; rather offer a few healthy snacks like fresh fruits, trail mix, or cheese.

Find out if healthy options are offered for lunch and snack in the school and if not, pack your child’s lunch yourself.

To help choose their favorite foods, bring your kids to the grocery store.

Limit their intake of high-sugar drinks including fruit-flavored drinks such as punch, soda and even 100% fruit juice.

Your kids will have a great time learning to eat nutritiously if you let them help prepare a healthy meal.

If you're ready to teach your kids how to cook, then keep reading to learn some simple tips for teaching them the basics and give them skills that will last them a lifetime.

If you’re ready to teach your kids how to cook, then keep reading to learn some simple tips for teaching them the basics and give them skills that will last them a lifetime.

First of all, think safety. Any child that has to stand on a stool or chair in order to reach the stove is too young to cook. By letting younger children help set and clear the table, gathering ingredients, and stirring, mixing or adding ingredients, you can help start them off.

Next, set rules about handling knives and other sharp instruments and handling hot pans or boiling ingredients. There are parents who start teaching their kids how to cook by showing them how to make things that don’t really require cooking first and then afterwards, they would let them make food in the microwave.

When you’re teaching your kids how to cook, try creating a relaxed atmosphere that is fun. Do you remember what it was like when you were learning to cook? It’s likely you have made a few messes and broke a few dishes. It happens. Learning to cook should be fun, not drudgery, although there are certain responsibilities that go along with the privilege, such as cleaning up as you go along, and leaving the kitchen clean when you’re finished.

Start with the basics. Showing your kids what the different utensils are used for, and the right way to use them is a good place to start. Use the right ingredients for the right dishes and teach them about herbs and spices. Cooking is a great way to learn fractions and chemistry, and your kids might not even realize they’re learning while they’re having fun!

You can start with simple recipes. There are some great cookbooks for kids on the market today, that include step-by-step instructions and pictures so kids can see what something’s supposed to look like while they’re assembling the recipe…let success build on success.

You can give your kids a chance to shine. When they learn to cook more complicated recipes, you should allow them to be responsible for planning and cooking lunch or dinner one night. You should let your kids plan the meal and shop for the ingredients because this will help them realize and appreciate the effort that goes into cooking.

You should start including foods from different cultures as your kids become more skilled. French crepes, Italian lasagna, and other recipes are not really difficult to make and your kids will also develop an appreciation for many different kinds of food.

Aside from making cooking more fun, having tools that are their own size make it easier for them to participate especially when it comes to younger children. You can find kid-sized kitchen utensils at any department or specialty stores.

Make sure you take plenty of pictures — you may not realize it now, but you’re making memories that someday will be as delicious as that batch of chocolate chip cookies you’re baking now!
