I am what some people would call an introverted, computer-obsessed, elitist, nerd. Some people call me that, but most other people call me much worse things. I have several friends, but we do all of our socializing on the Internet. I play lots of games on the computer, I eat lots of junk food, and I wear lots of funny t-shirts. That is me in a nutshell, and it doesn’t get much deeper than that. I was an angry guy because I felt the world didn’t understand me, but I never actually tried to go out into that world and introduce myself. My loneliness was mostly my own fault.

I had a moment of self doubt and guilt one day about the direction my life was headed. My mother came to my room and asked me for a favor, which was actually a business proposition since I would be well compensated for my troubles. My parents like to go out together on Wednesday nights. All that had stopped about a year previous because my mother was getting close to her due date with my little baby sister and was put on bed rest for various minor complications. My sister has been around for around 6 months at this point so they wanted to continue their weekly date tradition. I told mom I couldn’t do it. I had raids planned with my online game. What kind of son lets games come in the way of their parent’s happiness? I wiped some cheese dust on one of my funny t-shirts and promptly forgot about the whole thing.

I busied myself doing what I always do for the next couple of weeks, which means I sat in my room and got busy wasting my last summer before college on a computer. One day, my mother politely knocked on my door and stepped in wearing a really nice new dress. She quickly said, “I know you won’t eat it, but dinner is in the fridge. Tina is here. Try not to get in her way so she can take care of the baby, okay? Love you!” Just like that she was gone, leaving me surprised and with a strange girl in the house. I sat there, just staring out into space for a long time. I gathered my courage, put on one of my better funny t-shirts, crept downstairs, and saw what had to be Tina. She was perfection. A little geeky and completely charming. I loved her.

I’m not sure she could hear my heart breaking to pieces for her, but she turned around and smiled and patted the seat near her. We talked for a minute, or maybe an hour. Time got all crazy for me because I just wanted to keep drinking her up with my eyes. It seemed so unfair when the baby started crying, but I let her go. She turned around and said she wanted to hang out again, if I wanted…and that she would like to see more of these funny t-shirts I had. As soon as she was out of sight, I hopped right up and left my folded shirt on the couch with a quickly-scrawled note that said, “Please keep it.”

I thought about Tina all week. I couldn’t get her out of my mind, but I knew I couldn’t ever look at her in the eyes again. I would make a fool of myself. The next week, I knew she came. When I heard the baby crying, I went downstairs and left her another one of my funny t-shirts, folded, and with a note. I repeated this for a month straight, always giving her one of my shirts and always leaving a note. I expected to find them returned to me any day, but the exhilaration of her accepting them was much greater than my fear. After a few weeks, I finally went to talk to her. I told her how I felt, sharing emotion with someone outside of my family for the first time in my life. I was so scared, I wanted to just vomit and run away…but I’m sure that wouldn’t have made a very good impression.

That was how it all began, how I fell in love with my wife and how I finally came out of my shell…all because of some funny t-shirts and her laugh. I have never been happier, and she was so much more well-adjusted than me. She introduced me to good people and good music, and to a social life I never would have had the courage to find if it hadn’t been for her. Years later, I asked my mother on a whim if she had planned my encounter with Tina on purpose. She smiled and said, “I needed a babysitter. I needed my son to live outside of the Internet. I’m just glad I got both out of the deal. Money well spent.”

There is a great site about funny t-shirts which can be found at funny t-shirt where you can see how it’s done right.

We have all heard the theories expounded by the Da Vinci Code and “New Atheists”. Stated simply, they believe that the gospels were written and “fleshed out” 300 years after the fact. Some even question whether or not Jesus actually existed.

Such thinking clearly flies in the face of facts, archeology, and credible peer reviewed studies . There is abundant evidence available that traces authorship to the gospels to as early as 50 AD. That would be just seventeen years after the events described took place. It is interesting to compare other books form antiquity with the Bible. No other book is as well supported by early authorship and physical fragments that date close to that early authorship.

There are 5700 New Testament Greek Manuscripts or fragments of the New Testament that date to within 200 years AD. For Homer’s Iliad, the ancient book that comes in second to the Bible for historical support, there are only 643. No ancient book has the support the New Testament has. It has more fragments that can be dated closer to the events described than any other ancient book or work.

The earliest (closest to the life of Christ) undisputed manuscript of a New Testament book is the John Ryland Papyri (P52, dated A.D 117-138), which survives from within about a generation of the time most scholars believe it was composed (A.D 95). Since it was written in Asia Minor and was found in Egypt, the demand for some circulation time (time for the fragment and message to travel form the point of origin) would place the composition of John in the first century. It is interesting that none of the “New Atheists” mentions the John Ryland Papyri in any of thier books. This despite the credibility and science that surrounds it and it’s dating.

Whole New Testament books (e.g., the Bodmer Papyri) are available form A.D. 200, and most of the New Testament, including the Gospels, are available in the Chester Beatty Papyri form 150 years after the New Testament was finished. This is important. The interval between the dates of the original composition and the earliest physically evidence is very small. The time gaps between the events being recorded, the date of authorship, and the early physical books and fragments are very small especially when compared to the other books of antiquity. Let’s compare.

No other book form the ancient world has as small a time gap, between composition and the earliest manuscript copies, as the New Testament. Yet the very same voices that hold up the authorship and content of Plato’s work as fact question the validity of the Bible. Yet only seven fragments exist form Plato and they date form 1300 years after Plato supposedly wrote them. That is a 1300 year gap between the events described and the earliest physical copies. Yet nobody ever questions the historical accuracy of Plato’s writing or if Plato even wrote what is attributed to him. Has any scholar ever questioned Plato’s historical existence?

What about the “Gallic Wars” written by Caesar. Surely with such a notable author and such a famous and studied work we would have numerous copes dated closely to the “wars” described. Nope. The earliest copies on hand were written 1000 years after the wars in question. And we only have ten of those.

The abundance of early manuscripts, the narrow length of time between the written and the earliest manuscripts, make the New Testament the most well proven book of the ancient world. In short, the evidence makes the idea that the New Testament was “made up three hundred years after the fact”, laughable. In terms of early evidence, the New Testament is the Champion of ancient books and can stand the scrutiny of the modern era.

Without a doubt, the television is one of the greatest advancements in technology. Most people these days cannot live without a TV; it has indeed become more of a necessity, especially among the younger generation. It has to be made clear, though, that despite its many benefits, the TV comes without risks as there are quite a lot of TV shows that are not exactly child-friendly. It therefore becomes of utmost importance for the parents to keep a close watch of their children especially when it comes to TV watching.

Watching TV can breed positive values as it enhances cooperation and encourages tolerance and respect. At the same time, however, since watching TV means fewer active moments, it can make one prone to obesity. Aside from that, it can expose kids to violence and drug abuse, cigarette smoking, alcohol drinking, and sex.

Make watching TV a family activity. Consider having a regular “family movie night” at home. Search some kind of kid friendly title that is suitable for the whole family and involve children in choosing and talking about the films you watch together. When a family sits together and watch movies they bring the family closer.

Comedy shows are great for the whole family. Laughing out loud together can make you feel a lot closer; and really, there’s nothing better than a good laugh to make you more energized. So as you can see, comedy shows not only promote a healthy disposition, they also help you achieve general well being.

Perhaps you are not aware of it, but there have been studies made on the effect of watching TV on children’s health, and the result is that children are able to deal with pain much longer. Get your children involved when choosing a particular show to watch so they will have something to look forward to come on family TV day.

It really does not matter what kind of shows your children choose. They can watch movies that even grown ups will enjoy. The important thing is that you can be together and laugh together as a family.

The practice of watching wholesome comedy shows with your children can be stress relieving; it also helps to develop a healthy state of mind.

Kids learn so many wonderful values by watching comedy TV shows with the whole family. One of the best lessons one can get from this is not to be too serious with everything. It pays to have a healthy disposition, and watching comedy shows help you achieve it.
