An occasion for friends and family to get together to celebrate the arrival of a new child is a baby shower and often, baby shower games are included in the festivities.

Baby showers are sometimes hosted before the baby is born and sometimes after.

When you host a baby shower, having games to play as entertainment as well as to break the ice is a good idea. You may have guests that don’t know each other as well as several different age generations in attendance.

At a baby shower, there are all different types of games that hosts can use which is why there is an opportunity to have multiple winners. There are also games that require little preparation or expense. Try your hand at these few free baby shower games you are free to use when you plan or host a baby shower.

Trying to see who can name the most nursery rhymes is one game you might want to play. See who thought of the most after you have given your guests a few minutes to write them down. You can prepare a list to compare to if you want beforehand. Plus if your baby shower guests appear stumped you can name a few to get them started on the right track.

A word scramble is another good type of game you can have. You can scramble up some baby words and print them out on a piece of paper and let the guest unscramble them. Giving your baby shower guests a blank sheet of paper and have them write a phrase such as Jill’s new baby, or the new baby’s full name and have them see how many words they can find in the letters is another tip for this game.

If you want to liven things up a bit give every guest a piece of paper with a baby related word on it and tell them not to show it to anyone. When everyone has arrived, you can explain to them that they should cough and say excuse me within 5 seconds they hear their word. The other guests then can each make one guess as to the word. You can give prizes to whoever guesses the most right as well as to whoever stumps the other shower guests the longest.

You should just try to find a variety of baby shower games that everyone will enjoy playing and have a great time celebrating the blessing of a new baby.

Driving under the influence (DUI) is a serious offense that requires the expertise of a DUI lawyer Jacksonville.

Schools throughout the country begin welcoming students back from their summer hiatus beginning in early August and all the way through much of September. Regardless if you are a parent, child, school administrator, driver, or a concerned citizen, with these tips our nation’s students will be kept safe.

Bus Stop. Your child’s bus stop should be in an area that is well lit, easily accessible, and away from traffic. Contact the school administrators to have the stop moved in case if it is not. In some situations you may need to contact the school board instead. Make sure that the stops is sufficiently free of snow, ice, and related debris if you live in an area where there is heavy snowfall.

2. Clothing. Children should be wearing bright colored clothing, especially if waiting for the bus before sunrise or getting home after dark. Removable reflective tape should be placed on their outer garments including on their hats and coats.

c) Boarding. Teach your children to only move forward to board the school bus when it has come to a complete stop and the driver opens the door. As they await entrance, then children should line up single file.

d) Seating. Virtually all school buses DO NOT come equipped with seatbelts, nor are seats strong enough to resist impact in the event of a crash. It is therefore critical to teach your children to be seated at all times and facing forward. Studying various brace positions is a must in order to prepare for the possibility of an accident. Learn optional exit strategies including using the emergency door or windows.

5. Exiting. When it’s time to exit the bus, then what the children must do is move far away from the vehicle to allow the driver to see that they have cleared the bus and are safely away from traffic. You should tell your kids that they should always stay away from the rear wheels of the bus.

f) Awareness. Teach your children to be aware of other traffic in the area. Assuming that drivers will stop for them or even see them is a bad idea. If the children needs to cross the street, they are to do so only with the driver directing them. Tell your kids that they should be constantly looking both ways as they cross the street until they are safely on the other side.

Every year children die or are injured in school bus related accidents. Many die as a result of a collision involving their bus with another vehicle while others are killed or hurt as they fail to clear the area around the bus or are hit by oncoming traffic.

By raising their awareness of potential hazards while the rest of us can make school bus safety a priority by obeying the rules of the road, you can keep your child safe. It would be great if you could make this school year a safe one.

In order to stimulate your children's mind and body, it is important to engage them in a variety of activities. But as much as possible, it is also important that you do not over-schedule your children.

In order to stimulate your children’s mind and body, it is important to engage them in a variety of activities. But as much as possible, it is also important that you do not over-schedule your children.

What a lot of well meaning parent would do is set out to interest their children in a few extracurricular activities aside from school and ordinary family fun stuff.

It’s natural to work hard to be the best parent that you can be. But many parents assume that scheduling their children for as many activities as possible is actually the best way to rear kids because they get so caught up in the chaos of ordinary busy life.

But realistically, you child will be prevented from enjoying quiet solitude and some occasional time to simply reflect on life and enjoy an ordinary, ‘lazy’ day if you over-schedule them and this will have the potential to impact your family in a negative way.

Parents nowadays are excited to schedule their children for as many activities as possible, buy into the latest developmental tapes and do everything possible to stimulate early intellectual development and healthy habits.

Not surprisingly, kids will be left exhausted, confused, discouraged, and un-motivated since this pattern of over-scheduling can backfire.

Scheduling activities was virtually unheard of in the old days. Traditionally, parents have gone with the flow and they encourage their children to engage in active play as they see fit.

Do you know how you can encourage your kids to get involved without over-burdening them?

Keep reading to learn some tips from experienced parents:

Every Season, One Activity should be Scheduled. An example would be scheduling something for the spring and something for the fall if you are interested in getting your children involved in sports. Don’t think about having a plan every weekend day or for every season. With this one activity, you can stimulate your child’s development and also encourage a healthy lifestyle without burdening them.

Your Children should have a Choice. As best as possible, you want to try to choose activities your children will enjoy. You should consider one or two different activities in order to do this and consult with your child. If you register them for soccer but they hate soccer, you will probably only end up frustrated, and your child will not benefit from the experience.

Quiet Time should be Allowed. Your child should be allowed some portion of the week, month, or day where he doesn’t have to do anything. Introspection and time for simply exploring are essential components of a child’s development.

In the long run, we are all well meaning parents. But keep in mind that being a good parent is not defined by how many activities they involve their children each and every day.

A good parent is one that allows their children the opportunity to explore many different things without forcing many different things on their kids.

Some insight into the world of parenting is offered in the following article.

Some insight into the world of parenting is offered in the following article.

Did you know that there are just as many parenting styles as there are a number of parents? Experts believe the parenting styles fall into 4 different and identifiable styles: authoritarian, indulgent, authoritative, and uninvolved.

We can try to examine this more closely. The authoritarian parent is considered as the first parenting style. Army commanders are what these parents are like. What these parents prefer to do is issue commands and orders to their children and fully expect their children to carry out their orders without questioning them. Authoritarians do not welcome nor appreciate any feedback from their children. In a structured environment, they live by set and defined rules. These children as we now know, are generally considered to have an unhappy nature about them. When dealing with frustration, boys generally exhibit hostile behavior whereas girls tend to give up easily when faced with difficult situations. However, due to their disciplined upbringing, both the boys and the girls tend to perform better in school.

Then second style of parenting is the indulgent parent. Generally, these parents are lenient. They would allow a variety of behaviors by their kids and some people would describe it to be immature. They would also allow their kids to look after themselves and they would try to avoid confronting them. Other words to describe indulgent parents would be non-directive and democratic. Non-directive parents virtually take no action in the parenting of their children and they are also known to parent by default. But for democratic parents, even if they are lenient, they are more aware and show a commitment to engage with their parents.

The third parenting style is that of the authoritative parent. Both demanding and responsive are at what these parents are actually known for. These parents don’t impose their authority and welcome a certain amount of questioning while expecting their children to behave in a certain manner. What they demonstrate is a combination of assertiveness coupled with the ability to respond to their children’s feedback. Because of this, the children appear to be lively and also have a happier disposition about them. Not only is their self-confidence more developed, but they also seem to be more sure of their abilities. These children also show better emotional control and are more adept in their social skills. Because they tend to be more open minded in their outlook towards their children’s behavior, such as boys playing with dolls and girls playing with tools, gender stereotypes are also less of an issue with authoritative parents.

Lastly, we look at the parenting style known as “uninvolved parenting”. As the name suggests, these parents are simply uninvolved. They are not interested in any feedback from their children and they are neither demanding nor responsive of them. These are the parents who would more often neglect their children and they are also likely to be irresponsible.

Hopefully, you have found the above information insightful and will try to find out the many more sources available on this topic online.

Before returning to the workforce, selecting a daycare is one of the most important decisions that you will make.

Before returning to the workforce, selecting a daycare is one of the most important decisions that you will make.

Do you know why? The ultimate responsibility for your child’s well being and safety lies in the center you choose and this will include the 5-9 hours a day they are left in the care of the center.

There are several things you should keep in mind before you sign your children up for care whether you are looking for a home child care provider or an official daycare center.

Think of the location. The first thing that you have to consider is where you would like to have your child cared for. Perhaps it could be in a center close to your home, your job, or you may even prefer care in your home. You can start investigating the available centers or providers in that area once you have decided on the location.

Ask for References. Ask your friends and other family members with children for references about good daycare centers. Most of the time, there are the most reliable source of information about daycare.

The Daycare Staff should be Interviewed. Never place your child in a daycare center without first meeting the staff. Make a point to meet the director and the caregivers that will be looking over your little one. Feel free to ask them questions about their standards, disciplinary procedures, sleep and even feeding routines. What you should be looking for are enthusiastic, caring, dedicated, and warm staff members. Their love of children should be evident in everything that they do. If you are not comfortable with the staff, look somewhere else.

Check References. As we mentioned you should check with your family and friends for references to a decent day care center. In order to confirm their qualifications, you should also ask the center for a list of references you can call. One thing you might also inquire about is staff turn over. The higher the rate of turn over the more likely there is to be trouble.

A clean environment, a good reputation, solid rules and a curriculum that includes lots of playtime, physical activity, learning activities and even quiet time are the things that a good day care center will have.

You should also keep in mind staff ratios when you are determining whether a daycare is good or not. For babies, the ratio should generally be one caregiver for every three children when there are six infants and one for every four if there are eight.

The ratio is usually 1:3 for six children, 1:5 for ten and 1:4 for 12 for toddlers aged 12-24 months.

Checking to see if the ratio falls within recommended guidelines is a must and also check if it is acceptable to you.

Another thing you should make sure of is that the daycare facility is operating using a valid non-expired license. If you want to check if a license is valid, then try calling your local social services department.

Having a child is one of the most rewarding encounters that anyone will go through. Nonetheless, having and increasing a child is also a very costly venture and will become more expensive than most parents realize. When you’ve got a child you’ll certainly want to make certain that your child has the very best of everything, but it doesn’t imply that you need to pay too much on a number of the items that your infant will need. Such things as car seats, strollers and cribs can all be extremely expensive by themselves and add up over time. This is the reason you should consider fantastic thing to consider before you purchase any new products for your baby and browse many testimonials on these things so you know your hard earned money has been well spent.

Reading testimonials on different child things can assist you in many ways, the very first being that by reading through reviews you can see other parents’ encounters with assorted products. You can not only get an additional dad’s or mom’s viewpoint but you can view what babies would or did not seem to like about the products of course, if other mother and father thought these were risk-free and dependable. Also, many times when you read testimonials of numerous items online you can find out how much different people covered that product if they obtained it. This is a fantastic way to find areas that may be promoting the item you are searching for at a lower price, so that as all parents know, getting deals on baby things is definitely beneficial.

In terms of taking a look at product reviews for child items, there are some points to keep in mind, the very first being you need to know very well what you are searching for. Some product reviews only discuss the physical features of different child things. These reviews may possibly talk about apparent things that anyone is able to see from a picture. These types of reviews may be distracting and really should be disregarded. You may observe that an individual gavea infant stroller you are looking at one star out of five, that may make the stroller seem to be bad in your mind. Nevertheless, usually the one superstar might have been offered solely because the rater did not like the color of it. For this reason these reviews ought to be overlooked.

It’s also advisable to take into account that some articles are simply biased. There are a few diverse firms which have been known to pay people to write not impartial evaluations. As this is so widespread in the current society, always check out reviews as a possible further source of info, much lessa deciding aspect on if you need to obtain something.

Buying infant things may be an fascinating and a nerve-racking method. Every father or mother knows, you constantly want to make certain that your child gets the finest quality baby strollers, cribs, carriers and carseats possible and you want to make sure that you discover these items in a price you really can afford. This is why so many parents turn to child product reviews. By taking the data of those evaluations into account, you may make an improved educated decision on your own baby product purchase.

Being a parent is never easy, especially when you have children for the first time and are just learning what it’s all about. While it can be filled with stress and anxiety, it is only much later that we reflect and can manage to laugh at those hard times. In some instances, however, children can’t forgive their parents for certain actions or behavior and when they become adults it’s difficult to repair the damage.

Once the child has reached adulthood, he or she may be quite resistant to the parents’ attempts at reconciliation. With the right approach, though, you can almost always become a better parent and learn how to interact with your children in a more effective way. It’s true that parenting mistakes can be hard to reverse, but all you can do is put the past behind you and resolve to do better from now on.

Young children of the toddler age can sometimes give us more options than perhaps we realize. At this age, children are not able to keep their attention on one object or situation for very long at all. So, just one approach to imposing discipline, out of quite a few, is the strategy of distraction and redirecting our toddlers. We believe a lot of parents know this one even if they never read it. There is such a natural and almost logical thinking behind it. The idea is to divert your toddler the moment he or she is beginning to act up. By taking into account your own toddler’s preferences, you can come up with effective distractions that serve this purpose.

It’s best for a child to live in a home where there are certain rules and principles that must be followed. By doing so you can make it known to children what is and is not allowed. When you consistently stick to the same set of principles, it leads to a sense of security for the children.

The worst thing is to have little to no structure, and the child then is not always sure about things. Very often, children who act out in class or during everyday activities are suffering from the results of such an unstructured home. That much needed feeling of security will be absent, and that sets the stage of feeling insecure.

Parenting, like many other aspects of life, is often a matter of finding a good balance. Parents often develop a keen sense for their child’s flaws and shortcomings. However very often little is ever said about the positive when it occurs. This is not a balanced approach, and it results in the child not feeling appreciating for his or her good traits or victories. That’s why it’s important to take a more balanced view and see the positive in them whenever you can. It’s important that your kids really believe you when you react in a positive way, so don’t try to force this unnaturally. Do it when there’s a good reason for it, and make sure they know you’re telling them the truth.

You can’t expect parenting to be easy all the time, and the most you can do is try your best to do what’s right for them. As a parent, you also have to be adaptable and ready to try a new approach if things aren’t working out the way you want.

In this day and age of hyper-active kids and super busy, multi-tasking parents, it’s actually one of the hardest things to do but spending good quality time with your children doesn’t have to be a painful torture tactic.

Of all the things you can do with your kids, one of the best and most enjoyable is to read to them. This is a great way to connect with them and to share different parts of your life story in a natural, easy, and relaxed setting.

When you start reading to your kids, one of the best books, or set of books, you can use is the “Little House on the Prairie” series. Beginning in the late 1800’s, it tells the story of a distant, almost forgotten, time in American history. If Laura Ingalls hadn’t shared her life with us, then it may be a time that most of us might not believe ever existed.

Try to imagine living without cars, without light switches, and without TVs. Well, once you start reading “Little House”, you will be transported, in your imagination, back to moments that seem almost surreal. During this time, the kids actually played outside and got dirt beneath their fingernails and between their toes. Where children were thrilled to get 1 or 2 holiday gifts, and enjoyed playing with them for months afterwards. A place where adults planted and grew, hunted and prepared their own foods, right from the land they were living on.

But when it comes to the Little House picture, it can’t be painted completely rosy. Causing you to cringe are some of the statements and beliefs that you will see throughout the series. Reconstructing how they are read to your kids is what you may even want to do. For example, almost all of the comments about Native Americans are derogatory. But you can not just sweep American history under a rug, or hide it, in the hopes that all the painful parts will just disappear or go away. When sharing and passing on heritage to your children, remember that a large part of it are the struggles and accomplishments.

What your kids will probably be excited about is sharing such relaxing, enjoyable quality time with you. There’s also the fact that the thrill of each chapter will provide a rich and pleasant adventure for you and for them.

You are sure to find something that you and your children will love in the “Little House” series, whether it’s fighting a bear in hand-to-hand combat, or traveling all night across a frozen lake, or enjoying the beauty of Jack Frost’s artwork on a window pane. So make plans to start reading to your kids, and open up a whole new world of imaginative possibilities.

Have you found yourself running out to the mall and buying toy after toy for you kids simply because they have friends who have this toy, only to find the toy isn't even played with a couple of weeks after being purchased? If you get the right toys, then not only will playing with toys be a lot of fun, but this can also stimulate your child's imagination and creativity.

Have you found yourself running out to the mall and buying toy after toy for you kids simply because they have friends who have this toy, only to find the toy isn’t even played with a couple of weeks after being purchased? The cycle then resurfaces for the next toy of the moment your child tells you he or she wants. If you get the right toys, then not only will playing with toys be a lot of fun, but this can also stimulate your child’s imagination and creativity. The stores and departments stores that are found in the mall, even though there are a lot of them, tend to carry the same set of products and toys. Because they follow the tried and true formula for carrying products, it allows little to no unique products.

Children tend to want the same toys as their friends simply because whoever is first to get it will be the proud owner of a new unique toy. As each of your children’s friends now has this same toy, all purchased from the same store in the mall, this novelty of having a unique toy soon wears off. The right creative toys is what a child’s creativity needs in order to continue growing.

A fine line between spoiling a child and rewarding them with new toys is the line you walk as a parent. But from experience you know that the euphoria from having a unique toy fades as the toy becomes mainstream. What do you think you should do to avoid falling in this cycle?

The answer is found on the Internet! Online, there are many toy stores that have opened and sell unique, creative, imaginative, or simply hard to find toys products. Products that can be found at another store that specializes in carrying unique items are carried by very few specialty stores.

Bringing your child with you to the computer the next time a toy purchase is planned is a good idea and you can show them all of the stuff they never would have known exists if you had gone to shop at your area mall. There’s no way of telling what you could find.

Do you think your child enjoys building blocks? If he does, then you can try different kinds of toy blocks that your child would enjoy. Blocks that click together, snap together, or are stackable are available out there. Blast off to the moon, or to completely new worlds with a rocket, or ride the Orient Express with the a train set. There are a variety of toys out there that can be lots of fun for your little one!

Buying toys online also make it easy to find the perfect unique birthday or holiday gift for not only your own child, but for family and friends as well.

If you noticed that your baby is not napping well during her first few months of life, then you may want to try to cut back on the time that she is awake by 15 minute increments. She will then fight sleep and be difficult to get to nap if she is getting over stimulated. The way to prevent this is to watch her “sleepy” cues to make sure that you put her down when she is beginning to get sleepy.

Some parents would think that if they let their children cry, then it will harm him or her. If your child cries for fifteen or twenty minutes, then this will not harm your child physically or mentally. Self-soothing and falling asleep themselves is what babies will learn to do but only if you let her. It is very important that babies learn to fall asleep by themselves so that they can self-soothe if they awake in the middle of the night. Otherwise, you may have a child that will not sleep through the night for years.

Regular sleep patterns are intermeshed with regular eating patterns, so let us look at the stages of a baby’s life.

For newborns. Your newborn will sleep anywhere from 16 to 20 hours a day, including the naps that he takes between feedings. You should let your baby stay awake for a short while when he has been fed and then put him down before he becomes over stimulated.

For two months. When your baby is two months and older, then he should be allowed to try to self-soothe during their naptimes and bedtime. Crying is normal when you put your baby down, but it is okay. If he cries for longer than 10-15 minutes, then go in and check on him. Don’t get him up, but pat his bottom or lightly rub his back until he calms down.

For 3-6 months. Your baby will stop taking one of her naps at around 3-6 months. The third nap or late afternoon nap that they do not need as much is what this usually is. He may be a little fussy and may want to take a little nap, but you need to try to keep him up if you want him to go to bed at a decent time and sleep soundly through the night.

What about 16+ months. Usually, when your child is between 16-20 months, they quit taking the morning nap in favor of a longer nap in the afternoons. Babies this age usually sleep between 10-12 hours a night and take a 2-3 hour afternoon nap.

Ground Rules about Naps.

You decide when the nap starts and ends, not the baby.

If your baby is older than 4 months old, if she hasn’t slept enough then she will wake up crying. She could be in a position that is not comfortable, hot or cold, or she might have a dirty diaper. Try fixing the problem and encourage her to go back to sleep. Babies wake up happy, talking, and in a good mood when they have enough rest.
